Wow, we are almost half way done with this course! This week we learned how to create mood boards for inspiration and structures for our set. In this video I give a complete tutorial on how to build a house with a roof. Try it on your own at home!
Making Structures with Popsicle Sticks
Some Examples of Mood Boards
Find inspiration for your set, props, characters, and color palette by searching Google Images!
You can make a digital document for reference or you can print the images out and cut and paste them onto a foam core board. I like this option so that I can really lay everything out and see all the pictures together. See what colors are present in your images and try to mix them with your clay. You can stick little globs of clay on your board to see how they look together (this is what the professionals do!) You can also find items around the house that might capture the textures you need. I used a stretched out cotton ball to imitate the sheeps wool. You can decorate your mood board with dried flowers and leaves, uncooked pasta, fabrics—all kinds of things! Think about the characters you want to make, where they might live, what they might eat, who they could be friends with and google it! This research process will help you create a cohesive world. You can add your own drawings and thoughts too!
